Today our journey ends. Most students will stay aboard the ship until Sunday after formation and will soon return home to their loved ones anxiously awaiting their arrival. Today, Saturday August 29th, we’re expected to pass under the Golden Gate Bridge around 11:45 a.m. so get your cameras ready, if you in the area.  For those who wish to see the Golden Bear in Vallejo, we’ll arrive at the CMA dock around 1500 (3:00 pm) and should be secured by 1600 (4:00 pm).

At noon, we were 206.5 miles from San Francisco, heading NNW, 34° 39.0′ N 121° 00.3′ W average speed of 91.1 KTS…almost home.  However, even though it’s the end of cruise, there were still many activities going on around the ship. There was day work to be done; Quarters on the 04 Deck; painters in the engine room. Engineering students received awards for highest overall grade on cruise and we had many winners in the Moustache Contest.  Student’s with Captain Bolton doing C-Nav readings and our sunset.   As for me, this was my first cruise on the Golden Bear and I must say, it was a pleasure to work with a great bunch of students and staff on board.  What was inspiring to me was that everyone pulled together and worked hard and there was a lot of fun that was had by all!

Thank you for following the voyage and hope to see you again next year!

As we prepared The Golden Bear for departure from sunny San Diego’s Cruise Terminals, on Thursday, August 27th, the deck students were busy with various activities above the deck, while the engineering students were below making sure all systems were ready to go! The bridge crew was standing by, as the tug boats were positioned at the rear of the ship (aft) and starboard side to pull us safely away from the dock.

We departed San Diego at 10:24 a.m.  We’re headed home to CMA – Vallejo, California - our final destination and we’re scheduled to arrive on Saturday, August 29th.

For those of you who will be in the San Francisco area, on Saturday, August 29th, we will be passing under the Golden Gate Bridge approximately 11:45 a.m., but to be sure get there by 11:30 a.m.  We should arrive at the CMA dock approximately 1500 (3:00 p.m.) and should be secured by 1600 (4:00 p.m.).  Faculty and staff not on watch or assigned duty (i.e. galley gang) will have liberty.  Cadets with 4 bars and up, may have liberty and must return at their normal expiration of liberty time.  All other cadets will remain aboard until after formation at 10:00 a.m., Sunday August 30, 2009.

Tonight we end the “Moustache Contest” so don’t go away.  Come back tomorrow to see the winners and photos of our final day at sea, on The Golden Bear….Enjoy!
