January 29, 2010
Dear TSGB Cruise 2010 Students, Families and Friends:
This year we will head to the Far East. This will include port stops in Busan, Korea; Kobe, Japan; Guam, Saipan, Seattle and Hawaii. Cruise 1 will begin on April 29 with the ship departing Vallejo on May 2 and will end on June 29 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Cruise 2 will begin on June 29 in Honolulu, Hawaii and will end on August 29 in Vallejo.
Each student is to book their own flight to or from Honolulu, Hawaii to depart (for Cruise 1) and join (for Cruise 2) the ship. This is to make it easier for students to select their own departure and arrival times. It also represents an important part of learning how to join a ship.
To date, the least expensive flight to Honolulu is through Hawaiian Airlines. Except for students requesting a change of cruises, it is suggested that reservations be made as soon as possible.
Students joining the ship will need to book flights that will assure that they arrive at the ship in Honolulu no later than 1800 hours on June 29, 2010 but may arrive as early as 1200 on that day. Students departing the ship will need to leave the ship no later than 1600 on June 29, 2010 but can leave the ship anytime after 1200 on that day. The ship will be docked at Pier 10, Aloha Towers in Honolulu.
Students may arrive earlier or stay later than June 29 but will need to make their own arrangements for lodging if they choose to do this. When possible, students should plan to travel with friends in order to share cabs or vans to or from the ship.
A copy of the student’s itinerary must be provided to Susan Reynolds in the Marine Programs Office as soon as it is obtained. Should you have any questions about this procedure, please call Susan at 707-654-1211.
Let the adventure begin!
Sincerely,
Capt. Harry Bolton
